A remarkable release from this Lowland distillery. Not usually known for producing whisky of an intense and hearty nature, this Auchentoshan is a welcome break from the distillery’s norm.
Aged for a whopping 24 years in both Oloroso and former Bourbon casks, this whisky has been triple distilled – a lowland speciality rarely practiced these days. Long age, when matched with this distillation technique (known for producing a lighter spirit), creates a marvellously well balanced dram!
This whisky possesses a delightful profile, with wonderful notes of apples, pears and slight honeysuckle, accompanied by darker oak flavours of dried fruit, sherry and overripe bananas. Some tinned peaches round things out. This is certainly a dram that illustrates the nobility of the oak!
This whisky has been bottled without either chill filtration or colouration, and at a cask strength of 50.1% ABV, allowing the natural characteristics of the dram to really take hold.
An absolute cracker of a whisky from Auchentoshan! This limited release first hit the shelves in 2015, and bottles are increasingly rare.
